Water Street Project

The house on the corner of Furnace and Water is soon to be gone.

They plan to straighten out the road there.


We 've noticed that as they work on Water Street and dig 8'+ trenches to work in - they don't fill them up with the dirt that they dug out but packing type sand instead. They haul the dirt away. So far they have dug two trenches. One on our side of the road and then - when finished with those - one in the middle. Next there will be one for the cable that will end up under our sidewalk.

Those guys work looonng hours! They make the most of sunshine before quitting. The big square metal contraption is used to make sure there is no avalanche of dirt while they work down there.

They have hit water pipes twice - filling up the trench the first time and harmlessly squirting water several yards away the second time. The water was turned off and the trench pumped out.

We imagined they had hit a spring the first time it happened and that we might actually get that lake/river front property after all! It was really too good to be true. I pictured and semis finally being diverted elsewhere...and the DNR putting in fish. I always was a dreamer.
