Today's Musings
I just read that Congressman Paul Ryan (WI) said - America's entitlement program which was once used as a safety net is now being turned into a hammock for far too many people. I just saw a video of a gang of rowdy protestors in Madison who were acting like a mob of spoiled teenagers (ironically the tape was made and put on Youtube by one of them) who were trying to give Senator Glenn Grothman a hard time as he was headed to the capital building.
Here is what Glenn Grothman stands for.....What on earth is so offensive?
I am a Conservative. I was taught to be by life.
But - "Gimme, gimme" - is the chant for today it seems. What happened to people's pride?
For a semester or so - when the kids were small - and because (to my surprise) we qualified for reduced school lunches - we applied for them....but then quit. Not because we no longer qualified but because of feeling shame. Pride is not a bad thing....Taking it away from people IS. A safety net can be a good thing but not when it turns into a hammock. It's no fun struggling financially but it can teach self reliance...which is a source of self respect. We can't really live well without it.
Governor Walker's bill will save jobs - and teachers will lose jobs if it isn't put into place...but the unions are filling ears with misinterpretations of it. Odd, how one can say one thing, clearly, and it's interpreted in a "totally off the wall" way!
A while ago I actually experienced talking to someone with that same defect. It's eery! You say one thing in a way that you think/know is very clear and it comes back as if you said something else entirely. Maybe stuff like that happens to keep us on our toes. God doesn't promise heaven - here. Considering our natures, if everything went well all the time - it would be as helpful as our believing we can develop our muscles - by yawning.
