Lo and behold -

the other day someone beeped onto my Skype claiming to be a 20 year old woman with an ailing grandmother. She said they were living as refugees in Ghana... after fleeing Lyberia. It was quite a story. I kind of doubt this person was alone and it was so obvious that it was an unimaginative "line" hoping to get $. "Selling water on the streets" was the livelihood - until I questioned their having a computer - then "she" had to add ( after a pause to think of how to answer) that she "also has to sweep the floor of a internet cafe" before using the computer. It must have been an all nighter cafe considering what time it must have been there at the time.
