Activist or Passivist

Passivist  sounds peaceful, doesn't it?  But what does it really involve?   It involves hoping (maybe even praying) that others will do the right thing.    Trouble is that in our country  we

are those "others".   If we know anything about history we know - that will change - but until it does we have  responsibility.

I've read   through the Old Testament numerous times (and the N. T.) and it has made quite an impact on me.  For instance - the kings of Judah were judged by how they led the people.  If there were places of idol worship - God took that personally.  Passivity was no excuse.  God was long suffering but in the end ..... we know what happened. Even though Israel remained His chosen people they lost their freedom and became slaves.

When the people were hauled off into captivity - do you suppose He was trying to tell them something?  He did warn them that certain actions would cause those results.   In today's society His form of discipline would be considered abusive - warned or not.  Imagine the anguish  His people suffered when that happened!

I hope if/when  our country sinks  further - where we don't  recognize the intentions of the founding fathers (who used Christian principles when writing the constitution) that it won't be because Christians  (granted - perhaps now the minority to unbelievers)  just watched it happen.   I don't encourage angry  blasting and I sure don't  stomach using misinformation (as in many emailed FWDs :-[  )- but to do nothing produces bitter fruit, as well.

We need to encourage each other to just be informed and act (vote responsibly) as long as we have the opportunity.  It doesn't have to consume us - it's  just  part of  living responsibly.
