Good News From Iraq

It is SO good to get good news from Iraq for a change. Michael J. Totten is an independent journalist in Iraq and I just read the most uplifting post today about his observations when he went in with our troupes and the U.S. State Depart. civilian reconstruction worker, Donna Carter to Ramadi in Anbar province.

Ramadi , until recently, was considered the most dangerous city in the world. Totten's description of the people being downright "euphoric" about the American soldiers being there was heartening. They had had enough of al Quaeda and we can hopefully see it as a light at the end of the tunnel there.


The following quote he had is one that really made me cry out ..YES! It is a realization that has been needed esp. from a place like Ramadi (not to mention - some in the U.S.):

“(Sheikh) Jassim was pissed off because American artillery fire was landing in his area,” Colonel Holmes said. “But he wasn’t pissed off at us. He was pissed off at Al Qaeda because he knew they always shot first and we were just shooting back.”

I highly recommend checking out the eye witness accounts in part I and part II entries of Michael J. Totten about Ramadi. It is long but informative. It's only for individuals who are interested in the facts. - For those who have already made up their minds and don't want to be bothered with the facts .......... well........... (?) There really are too many of those, aren't there?
