Learning

Honestly! One never gets too old to learn something new and useful - again and again.

A bummed day can turn out to be not as bad as it first appeared. When my daughter had a remark said to her that came across outrageously rude and cruel believe it or not it was not as bad as it sounded. The remark was "You're adopted.... nobody loves you! What made that hit as hard as it did is that she IS adopted and since the kid who said it is related to a relative - we assumed she knew! Come to find out the kid didn't know she was adopted. So she was just being dumb - not cruel! Much better. ....and forgiveness easier.

To that (putting the mouth in motion before the brain is in gear) we can all relate!

Come to think of it - I remember my brother telling me that I was adopted! :-)

He also remembers as a kid thinking it would be cool to have been adopted and never understood when an adopted kid would be upset when they learned the truth. Lots of ways of looking at things.

Lesson learned --- again?
Assumptions can cause unnecessary pain.
