Good Grief!!!
Why are we so "hung up" on believing that mankind is "basically good"?
Do we even read the Bible anymore? We are Not basically good. That conceipt is totally unScriptual. There are people who are nice. There are people who want to be nice but can't seem to pull it off because they trip over things that have happened to them in the past. Even nice people aren't really good. Only God is good.
If we were basically good - Christ wouldn't have had to die on the cross 2000 years ago.
The other day I was feeling pretty good. It made me realize that on days like that when we are contemplating about life we are apt to feel like "God is in His heaven and all is right with the world"
This is a feeling....half of that is not reality. Good things happen...that does not make us "basically good"! We need to be understanding with people - less critical of them - not haughty...considering our own tendency to sin. That doesn't mean accepting of their sins - it's just being compassionate. And it sure doesn't mean we do that because we are basically good or - that underneath it all - they are. It's just being Christlike...sometimes when we may not feel like it .........because He wants us to.... and if we are His ...we want to.

I came across a little strong on that one, a? Even I use the term "good" --"he's/she's a good person" speaking of their manner.
To buy into Carl Sagan's philosophy is lethal. We need to "consider the source". Carl Sagan didn't speak as a believer - not being one. If we want to get directions to say - a town in Montana - we wouldn't ask someone from Mars.
Considering Isaiah 64:5-7 I figure believing what C.Sagan said is one step from the abyss...
